Lyra fans across the world, rejoice! A new trilogy is on its way from the genius Phillip Pullman starting in October with “The Book of Dust”.
Describing the trilogy as an “equal” Pullman has stated that the books will be a prequel and sequels to His Dark Materials Trilogy. Set 10 years before Northern Lights (Or The Golden Compass as is known as by the awful film and title in the US) when Lyra is just a baby.
I’m assuming the first book will either centre on Asriel or a new character altogether who will be researching into Dust. Purely speculation, but I’d love Mrs Coulter to feature somehow too!
The sequels will see Lyra at 20 years old – 10 years after the events of The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass. This could be really interesting, as **SPOILER WARNING** Lyra is unable to read the Althiometer at the end of Amber Spyglass – will she be able to now she is older? Is Will going to be in the book?
After the awful Golden Compass film (Though, snaps for Nicole Kidman as Mrs. Coulter) and sequels abandoned, I thought it would be over for Dark Materials. An unexpected trilogy to one of my favourite books of all time! I cannot wait!
What are your thoughts? Excited? Should the trilogy be left as it is?
